Motorcycle LFP Starter 8Ah

The Motorcycle LFP Starter 8Ah is a 12.8-volt lithium starter battery rated 500 cold-cranking amps at 1.3 kilograms, in an IP65 case. It goes into big-bore motorcycles, ATVs and personal watercraft.

Water, mud and vibration

An ATV battery lives through creek crossings, mud and pressure-washing. A personal watercraft battery lives in a wet hull with salt in the air. The sealed IP65 case keeps water out of the terminals and the electronics, and the cells sit clamped in a holder rather than hanging on plates. There is no acid to spill when the machine goes over.

500 amps for a big single

500 cold-cranking amps turn the high-compression singles and big twins on ATVs and 750 to 1200cc motorcycles, and the three-cylinder engines in a modern watercraft. Those engines ship with a YTX14 or YTX20-class lead battery, and the swap drops 3 to 3.5 kilograms off the machine.

Between Rides

Sitting all season

A quad or a watercraft sits unused for months at a stretch. This pack loses 2 to 3 percent of its charge a month on the shelf and takes no harm from being stored part-charged. A lead battery left the same way sulfates and turns up dead in the spring.

Charging Output

A stator is not an alternator

An ATV or watercraft stator puts out far less at idle than a car alternator, and a winch or a stereo draws from the battery whenever the engine is not revving. The 102 watt-hours give that gap a buffer. Across a long day of low-speed work, bring the engine up periodically to put charge back, the same practice a lead battery needs on these machines.

Charge on the machine, or at 14.6 volts from a lithium charger between seasons. Rinse salt off the terminals after a watercraft outing and keep the vent path clear.
