Why the cells stay level
Twenty-odd cells in series drift apart as they age. The board bleeds the high cells down at the top of each charge, and a pack that stays level delivers its full capacity for its whole life. A pack without balancing loses range early because one weak cell reaches the cutoff before the rest are empty.
