12V 100Ah Low-Temp Cutoff Battery

$259.00

12.8V 100Ah Group 31 LiFePO4 battery with a low-temperature charge cutoff, 1280Wh, M8, IP65. Built for cold-country use where charging in the freeze is the risk.

SKU: DC12-100L Category:

The 12V 100Ah Low-Temp Cutoff Battery is a 1,280 watt-hour Group 31 block with a low-temperature charge cutoff, on M8 terminals, rated IP65. It is built for cold-country use, a northern fishing cabin or a winter RV, where charging a battery in freezing weather is the danger.

The Cold-Charging Problem

Why freezing charge damages a cell

LiFePO4 deep cycle battery cell

Charging any LiFePO4 battery below 0 degrees Celsius plates metallic lithium on the anode. The damage is permanent, and temperature drives it, not charge current. A low current slows the plating without stopping it. A battery charged through a few freezing mornings loses capacity for good.

The Protection

What the cutoff does

The BMS in this block reads cell temperature and opens the charge path below freezing. Charge current is refused until the cells warm above zero. Discharge still runs down to minus twenty. The rig keeps its loads through a cold night, and the battery waits to accept charge until it warms. On a solar rig the controller holds off the morning charge until the sun warms the case; on a generator the same cutoff guards the pack.

Cold Use

Where it belongs

The block suits a northern travel trailer, an ice-country cabin, a remote telecom site or cold storage, any place the battery lives below freezing part of the year. To charge in the cold rather than wait for a thaw, the self-heating version warms its own cells and takes charge down to minus twenty ambient.

Fit

Charging

Once the cells sit above freezing, charge at 14.6 volts from a lithium charger or an LFP solar controller. Below zero the BMS keeps the charge path shut.
