The 72V 20Ah E-Moto Battery is a 72-volt LiFePO4 pack of 1,472 watt-hours with a 40-amp continuous rating, rated IP65. It is the entry size in the 72-volt range, for commuter electric motorcycles.

Why 72 Volts

Speed comes from voltage

LiFePO4 battery cells

Motor speed follows supply voltage. A 72-volt system spins the same motor faster than a 60-volt one and reaches a higher top speed with the same current. It also delivers a given power at lower current: 2,500 watts takes 35 amps at 72 volts against 42 at 60, and the controller and the cabling run cooler on the lower figure.

Range And Speed

The cost of going faster

Energy use climbs steeply with speed because drag rises with its square. A 72-volt commuter uses around 20 watt-hours a kilometre at moderate town speeds and 30 or more when held at top speed. 1,472 watt-hours therefore cover 70 kilometres of town riding or 45 of sustained fast running.

The Bay

Fitting a motorcycle frame

The pack is dimensioned for the battery bay of a 72-volt electric motorcycle, with the terminals positioned for the harness the frame routes. Mount it on the frame rails rather than on bodywork, and check clearance to the swingarm at full travel.

Matching

Controller and pack

Two numbers decide the pairing. The controller phase current has to stay under the 40-amp continuous rating of the pack, and the controller low-voltage cutoff has to sit above the pack cutoff so the vehicle limits first. A mismatch shows up as the pack shutting down under hard acceleration rather than the controller easing back.

Fit

Charging

Charge at 82.8 volts from a 72-volt lithium charger. Lower-voltage chargers cannot fill the pack.
