Marine Starting Battery 1000MCA

$299.00

12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 marine starting battery, 1000 MCA, Group 31 case, IP66 against salt spray. Starts an outboard and runs the boat electrics.

SKU: ST12-100 Category:

The Marine Starting Battery 1000MCA is a 12.8-volt 100 amp-hour pack rated 1,000 marine cranking amps, in a Group 31 case sealed to IP66 against salt spray. It starts an outboard and carries the boat electrics from the same battery.

MCA And CCA

Reading the marine rating

LiFePO4 starter battery cells

Marine cranking amps and cold cranking amps describe the same 30-second test at different temperatures. CCA runs at minus eighteen degrees Celsius, MCA at zero, and the milder test gives a figure 20 to 25 percent higher for the same battery. Compare an MCA rating against another marine battery, not against an automotive CCA figure.

Salt And Spray

The IP66 case

An outboard well takes solid spray and salt-laden air. The IP66 case keeps both out of the terminals and the electronics inside, a step above the IP65 rating on the land batteries in this range. Terminal corrosion is the usual reason a boat battery fails a start, and a sealed case with protected posts takes that path away.

Two Duties

Cranking and house

1,000 marine cranking amps turn a large outboard or an inboard diesel auxiliary. The 1,280 watt-hours behind that rating then run the sounder, the lights, a livewell pump and the radio through a day on the water, and the 4,000-cycle life takes the daily cycling a house battery sees. A dedicated cranking battery and a separate house bank are still the better build on a large boat.

Sizing

Against the engine maker’s minimum

Outboard makers print a minimum in the manual. A Yamaha F150 asks for 512 cold-cranking amps and 675 marine cranking amps. A Mercury V6 four-stroke asks for 490 CCA and 630 MCA, and a 250-horsepower V8 asks for 800 MCA alongside a reserve-capacity figure. 1,000 MCA clears those minimums with margin left for the electronics a modern console carries.

Charging

The outboard charging coil or an onboard marine charger on an LFP profile keeps the pack full. Rinse the terminals with fresh water after a salt outing, and torque the ring lugs to the datasheet figure.
