Motorcycle LFP Starter 7Ah

The Motorcycle LFP Starter 7Ah is a 12.8-volt lithium starter battery rated 420 cold-cranking amps at 1.15 kilograms, in an IP65 case with cell balancing built in. It suits 400cc to 750cc motorcycles.

What the board does on a bike

Four cells in series make the 12.8 volts, and they drift apart over hundreds of charge cycles. The balancing circuit brings the high cell down toward the pack average on every full charge, and a pack that stays balanced keeps its full cranking current for its whole life. The same board opens the circuit on a short, holds the pack above its low-voltage floor, and blocks charge below freezing.

The Machines

420 amps

420 cold-cranking amps cover the parallel twins, in-line fours and mid-size V-twins in the 400 to 750cc class that carry a YTX7 or YTX9-size lead battery. The 89.6 watt-hours run the fuel pump, ignition, lights and an accessory socket.

Protection

The failure the board prevents

A bike left with the ignition on, or with an accessory wired direct to the battery, flattens a starter pack over a weekend. The low-voltage cutoff opens before the cells go deep enough to take damage. Cycling the ignition or connecting a lithium charger brings the pack back.

Service Life

Why a starter pack lasts

A starting battery lives a different life from a house battery. It gives a burst, then sits near full charge while the engine runs. Depth of discharge stays shallow, and the 2,000-cycle rating covers years at that duty. What ends a lead starter battery early is standing at partial charge and vibration shaking material off its plates. This pack meets neither of those.

Charging

The regulator on the bike does the routine charging. A bench charge runs at 14.6 volts from a lithium charger. Leave the pack near half charge over a long lay-up.
