The Motorcycle LFP Starter 4Ah is a 12.8-volt lithium starter battery rated 250 cold-cranking amps at 0.8 kilograms, in an IP65 case. It replaces the lead battery on a 125cc to 250cc commuter, scooter or small sport bike.

Reading the cranking number

Cold-cranking amps have a fixed meaning under the SAE test: the current a 12-volt battery holds for 30 seconds at minus eighteen degrees Celsius while staying above 7.2 volts. Match or beat the figure printed on the bike’s original battery and the starter sees the current it was built around. 250 amps covers the small twins and singles that ship with a 4 to 6 amp-hour lead unit rated near 60 to 100 amps.

Why the rating looks smaller
A lithium starter battery carries fewer amp-hours than the lead unit it replaces and still starts the engine. Cranking draws on burst current, not stored capacity, and lithium delivers its burst without the voltage collapse lead shows as it ages. The 51.2 watt-hours here run the ignition, lights and instruments on a commuter through normal riding.

The 70 percent cut
The lead battery this replaces weighs about 2.6 kilograms. At 0.8 the lithium pack takes roughly 70 percent of that mass off a machine whose whole kerb weight sits near 140 kilograms.
Before Ordering
Case and terminal check
Cross-check the tray before ordering. The 113 by 70 by 105 millimetre body sits close to the common YTX5L and YTX7A footprints and lower than a YTX9 in the same tray. Terminal position counts as much as case size. Confirm whether the machine wants the positive post on the left or the right, since a reversed pack puts the cable under tension and strains the terminal.

Fit
Charging
Charge from the machine’s regulator on the move, or at 14.6 volts from a lithium charger on the bench. Check that an older regulator holds below 15 volts at speed before fitting.
